Day 3 began with pancakes, coffee, smoothies, and juice (fresh-pressed!) at Bob's Kitchen in the 3rd arrondissement. The triple-berry pancakes were absolutely wonderful and filled us up. An older French couple sat down next to us and seemed to be enthralled by the whole concept of pancakes, so Louis gave them a piece of his (he got banana), and they approved.
We even met "Bob" (Mark Grossman, author of our favorite bagel book!).
(There he is, back turned towards the camera . . .)
Après avoir brunché (After having brunched - yes, the French actually use the verb "bruncher"), we walked all the way to the Eiffel Tower (quite a long walk from the 3rd arrondissement!).
I had promised Sarah a pain au chocolat, so on our way home we picked up a few . . .
While Louis was at a rehearsal, Sarah and I made dinner using a recipe from a book of Flemish recipes Louis and I had picked up in Brussels.
On the menu: carbonade over roasted potatoes (you can compare ours with the carbonade we got in the restaurant in Lille), salade, pain aux céreales, and a pear-almond tart from our favorite boulangerie/pâtisserie.
Thanks for a wonderful visit, Sarah! Come back soon!
