Oh, yellow pedastal. If I drop an envelope in the slot on the left, my letter stays within Paris or its surrounding département, Île-de-France. If I drop the envelope in the right slot, my letter goes to the other départements, or it goes abroad. So uncharacteristically efficient. Thank you, la poste.

La Poste
I don't know why, but French mail collection boxes make me happy. Apparently Paris was the first place in the world to institute their use (or so says this citation-less website), and unlike those dark-blue American boxes, which are almost invisible, the French boxes cry out for attention.
