Panda's Other Nemesis

If Maggie and I have learned one thing from blogging, it's that the internet people like cats. With that in mind, meet Maya.

Along with Fantômette, Maya stalks the courtyards of our apartment complex, tempting Panda with her scent and, once every long while, drawing Panda into a terrifying stand-off that could only end in violence and tragedy:

cat and dog

I like Fantômette just fine, but Maya freaks me out a little. Also I'm not sure whether "Maya" is the correct spelling, since it could also be "Maïa" or "Maja", depending on the native language and orthographic training of the people who named her. What I am sure about is that Maya is a cat with a plan, and that plan probably involves Panda's demise, followed shortly by that of her owners . . .

  1. "Maya" is the correct spelling. it comes from a cartoon "maya l'abeille" (maya the bee). His owner was 6 or 7 years old when she gave him his name. Kids often act without judgment. Anyway, maya is unquestionably the kingcat of the 53 rue de belleville : he is the only male and the older cat.(beginning of his reign : fall of 2008)
He succeeded to Dalton (or nouchnouch): a terrific rascal. Panda would have refused to go out for the rest of her life. At first he was living in another courtyard, and used the 53 as a cottage. For some mysterious reasons, he decided to settle here around 2000-2001 in a first floor appartment. We was nasty like Joe Dalton, and gluttonous like Averell Dalton: a tiger. He spent his days resting on scooters (with some preference for the Scarabeo Aprillia - see Fantomette's picture). When Maya arrived in the courtyard, around 2003-2004, he came from a second floor appartment. he was a shy fat and timorous cat. Dalton despised and tortured him.
Then came Fantomette (spring 2007): Dalton despised her also (she was young, naive and a female) but in spite of that (and because of that) he used her as a soldier and both of them tortured Maya. Maya ran and ran and lost weight. Then Dalton died. Maya and Fantomette became friends. They played peacefully together. Suddenly in 2009, 2 new dogs came to live here (additionally to Ares : a cat eater monster, who never ate any cat as far as I can say). Maya and Fantomette stopped playing together : too many cat eaters to fight.
